Choosing your software builder

Agency vs freelancer: who should build your software?

The best choice depends on the job and how much of the project you want to manage. A marketplace can help you find a specialist; a build partner can coordinate a first product. Compare the responsibilities before comparing the quote.

A marketplace is a way to hire, not a delivery promise

Upwork and Fiverr connect buyers with independent providers. The provider you choose, their contract and the package you agree determine what you receive. A strong freelancer can be a good fit for a defined feature, design task or a whole app when their experience matches the scope.

Write a brief covering users, core workflows, required accounts and what counts as finished. Review relevant work, discuss testing and agree milestones before hiring. A profile rating does not replace project-specific due diligence.

Decide who coordinates the moving parts

A software build includes more than writing screens: scope, design, account setup, data access, payments where needed, testing and handover. A freelancer may cover several of these well; a team may divide them between people. Neither structure guarantees quality.

Ask who makes decisions, who checks the result and who helps when an issue appears. If you have no technical lead, agree how you will demonstrate and accept each important workflow.

  • For a small isolated task: a specialist freelancer may suit.
  • For a first product: look for someone responsible for the whole agreed delivery.
  • For evolving or complex work: consider independent technical oversight.

Where Paramount Profits fits

We help shape and build a focused custom web app, not a native mobile app or an entire enterprise platform. Start with our free software questions, then complete the idea questionnaire for a personal plan. The plan helps you understand the first version before deciding whether to buy.

The upfront option is $9,997 USD for the agreed 14-day build, starting at kickoff once scope and required access are ready. It includes a sales page, $500 of Facebook ad spend, app-use training, 12 months of standard hosting and 30 days of fixes. Upfront buyers also receive six private one-hour consultations, every two weeks for three months.

Alternatively, pay $5,500 today and $5,500 on day 30 ($11,000 total), with delivery after the final payment clears around day 30; or $3,700 today, on day 30 and on day 60 ($11,100 total), with delivery after the final payment clears around day 60. Client delays can shift delivery. Third-party usage, later features and mobile conversion are separate costs.

Compare the decision, not just the headline price

Freelancer / marketplace hiring

Agree directly with the provider who scopes, designs, tests and coordinates other specialists.

Coordinated build service

Ask the service to name the person accountable for the complete agreed first version.

Budget

Freelancer / marketplace hiring

Compare the actual fixed package or hourly estimate, including revisions and handover.

Compare the written scope, exclusions, change process and total rather than assuming every agency bills the same way.

Ownership

Freelancer / marketplace hiring

Check the contract and get control of repositories, accounts and your data.

Coordinated build service

Check the same protections. A team name alone does not establish ownership.

Common questions

Do I have to buy to get a personal software plan?

No. Complete the free software questions and the idea questionnaire for your personalised plan. A paid build is a separate decision.

Does the 14-day offer include a native mobile app?

No. It covers an agreed-scope web app that can be used in a phone browser. Native mobile conversion is a separately quoted later phase.

What should I check before choosing a builder?

Ask for a written scope, acceptance criteria, full payment schedule, code and account ownership, third-party costs, testing responsibilities and a usable handover. Read the agreement before paying.
